MS Aquatics Program

The Catonsville Y offers a free MS Aquatics Program designed to support individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis through therapeutic, water-based exercise in a welcoming and social environment. The program focuses on improving mobility, strength, and overall well-being through guided aquatic therapy, including: Adaptive swimming and snorkeling Range-of-motion and stretching exercises Resistance-based strengthening activities Walking and balance exercises using pool equipment Sessions are led by a Y-certified instructor, with exercises reviewed by a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant to ensure safety and effectiveness. Water temperatures are maintained between 83–86°F for comfort and therapeutic benefit. The program is supported by dedicated volunteers of all ages who assist participants in the water and help facilitate exercises. Volunteers also benefit by: Gaining hands-on experience working with individuals with MS Earning service-learning hours Exploring interests in healthcare careers
